Whitson Road closed due to fire at block of flats

Whitson Road and the surrounding access roads are currently closed due to a fire at a block of flats.

Emergency services were called to the incident around 10.45am on Monday morning.

Police have advised members of the public to avoid the area.

A police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance following a fire at a block of flats in the Whitson Road area of Edinburgh, which was reported around 10.45am on Monday, 4 May, 2026.

“Whitson Road and the surrounding access roads are currently closed.

“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.46am on Monday, 4 May, to reports of a dwelling fire on Whitson Road, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and a number of specialist resources to extinguish a fire affecting a top floor flat.

“One casualty has been taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Two appliances remain at the scene.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.

Police Scotland update 3.50pm: “Roads have reopened following a fire at a property in Edinburgh. Around 10.45am on Monday, 4 May, 2026, we were made aware of a fire at a block of flats on Whitson Road.

“Officers attended to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of any serious injuries. It is not being treated as suspicious.

“Members of the public are thanked for their patience.”
