Lost Shore Surf Resort near Edinburgh have launched family splash experiences at a time when the surf lagoon’s water temperature of 21°C proved hotter than some of the world’s best-known surf destinations.

That included California’s famous Lower Trestles, which recorded a maximum water temperature of 19°C, and Morocco’s iconic Anchor Point at 17°C.

Splash at the Shore sessions allow families to bring inflatables, boogie boards and floats for a supervised experience designed for all ages.

The 45-minute sessions feature small rolling waves with no surfboards in the water, creating a relaxed environment for swimming, splashing and building confidence in the waves.

Wetsuits and water shoes are provided, with qualified lifeguards on hand throughout the sessions, and Iain Young, head of commercial at the Lost Shore Surf Resort, near Ratho said: “The Splash at the Shore sessions are all about having fun in the waves together.

“The response has been brilliant. We’ve had loads of people splashing around, including visitors who’ve never experienced anything like this before.

“Because the sessions run with small waves and lifeguards on hand throughout, it’s also a really safe and relaxed way for families to enjoy the water and build confidence in the surf.

“You don’t need any surfing experience at all, just bring your swimwear and be ready to have fun.”

Splash at the Shore is open to anyone aged four and above, with no surfing experience required. Children under nine must be accompanied by an adult, while children aged nine and over can take part unaccompanied.

Sessions are currently running on selected Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with tickets priced from £20 for one adult and one child, £10 for additional children, and £10 for children aged nine and above attending unaccompanied.
