Lunch event commemorates three decades of community spirit
Guests at a charity event in Edinburgh have raised £107,000 in support of people living with cancer. The fundraiser was held at a sold-out event in aid of supporting Maggie’s, while also marking a significant milestone.
Maggie’s has been assisting people affected by cancer for 30 years by giving free support within local communities. The achievement was celebrated as part of the 14th Ladies Love Lunch event, hosted at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa.
The successful fundraiser, held on the 24th April, welcomed a crowd of supporters to the Edinburgh 5 star hotel, for a three-course meal, celebratory drinks and entertainment, all in aid of improving cancer care.
Ladies Love Lunch at the Sheraton has become a cornerstone of the charity’s fundraising efforts, helping to ensure people with cancer and their loved ones can access free support when they need it most.
Martijn Zengerink, General Manager of the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, said: “Celebrating 30 years of cancer support is such an incredible achievement and we’re honoured to have played a role in hosting such a special occasion.
“The £100,700 raised this year will make a real and lasting difference, and we’re proud to continue supporting Maggie’s in delivering vital services to individuals and families facing cancer.
“It’s continually inspiring to witness the generosity and energy in the room for this event. The passion of everyone involved, from organisers to guests, creates a really special atmosphere each year.
“Our team takes great pride in delivering an experience that matches the importance of the cause and it’s a privilege to work alongside Maggie’s to bring this event to life.”
Samantha Lea, Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s Edinburgh, said: “One in two of us are likely to be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime. A diagnosis of cancer shatters our confidence in life. It can bring with it anxiety, stress and isolation, not just for the person with the diagnosis but for family and friends. People with cancer often have the need for emotional and practical support out with their hospital appointments and that’s where Maggie’s can help.
“As we celebrate our milestone 30th anniversary we know that our vital services are needed more than ever.
“We are extremely thankful for the continued support of the Sheraton and all the people and businesses who have donated services and prizes to help us raise funds for Maggie’s Edinburgh. Without them we simply couldn’t make this event happen.”
Funds raised on the day will go directly towards Maggie’s centres, to aid in their important work in offering free practical, emotional and psychological support in a warm, welcoming environment for anyone affected by cancer, completely free of charge.
Marking three decades of impact, this year’s event served as a reminder of what can be achieved when community comes together. With continued support from partners like the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Ladies Love Lunch is set to remain a highlight of the fundraising calendar, helping Maggie’s reach and support even more people facing cancer in the future.
