Sushi restaurant on Haymarket Terrace damaged in fire

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four fire appliances and a height appliance to Haymarket Terrace on Thursday afternoon to attend a fire which began in a sushi restaurant.

A fire was reported to SFRS in the restaurant, Kaji Sushi and Ramen, just before 5pm. The emergency services have not reported any casualties.

Lothian Buses announced a diversion to some of their services as the road was closed although diversions were over by around 7pm.

Earlier a SFRS spokesperson said: “Members of the public are asked to avoid the area. We received a call at 4.56pm on Thursday, 9 April, to reports of a fire on Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh.

“Five fire appliances and other resources are currently at the scene, and firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a five-storey building. There are no reported casualties and crews remain at the scene.

“There are a number of road closures in place in the area and members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.”

There has been damage to the building where there are flats on the upper floors.
