Police in East Lothian are aware of recent reports of antisocial behaviour with the illegal use of off-road bikes in and around the Musselburgh and Wallyford areas.
Officers have been carrying out multiple high-visibility patrols in an effort to detect criminality and educate people in the use of petrol and electric bikes.
Constable Alan Clark said: “We are committed to tackling this dangerous behaviour and officers are carrying out regular patrols in these areas as a deterrent. Those identified face prosecution, fines, driving bans and vehicles may be seized and destroyed.
“We want riders to recognise the safety risks they pose to themselves and other road users, as well as the impact on the surrounding community and livestock.
“While we work closely with partner agencies to identify those involved, we continue to ask for the support of the public in providing us with descriptions of people or vehicles and places where off-road motorbikes are being kept or fuelled. This information is vital. Please report any incidents to Police Scotland through 101.”
