Leith Writing is calling for contributions to its new anthology, with a deadline of 30 June.
Leith Writing welcomes submissions in any genre, from a haiku to 3,000 words: poetry, short story, non-fiction, drama, personal reflection.
It will be the sixth volume produced in this annual series, following on from The Silence in Between, published in 2025. The Silence in Between contained 32 pieces of prose and poetry by a varied group, ranging from experienced local authors to talented school pupils. A similar mix will feature in the next edition.
It’s a great opportunity for develeloping local writers.
Tracks and traces
There is no fixed theme for Leith Writing this year. The organisers are looking for a wide-ranging view of Leith, and have offered an optional prompt for writers seeking a way in: Tracks and Traces. Old railway tracks, new tram tracks. Thirty years since Trainspotting the film launched. Do tracks always lead somewhere? Who made this track, and how many people have been this way before? Are there rest stops or other places to be thankful for along the way, junctions where choices have to be made? Does the track end, or does it not? Is it alright to go off-course?
Contributors to Leith Writing may wish to include a short note of two or three sentences explaining what lies behind their piece, though this is not required. Leith does not need to be named explicitly, but should be present in some dimension, however creatively interpreted. Work in languages other than English is welcome, provided a translation is included.
The organisers have no objection to a bit of lingo, but will not consider anything gratuitously offensive, and will discard any piece they believe to have been AI-generated.
