Gajander Singh will be a player to look out for as Boroughmuir cricket club mark their centenary in 2026.
All rounder Gajander compiled three centuries last season in finishing top run maker in East Division Three.
The club are still finalising plans to formally mark the milestone but certainly their 50th anniversary proved notable for a match against a Watsonian X1 featuring future Australian captain, Kim Hughes.
Boroughmuir’s first match was played on the Meadows and resulted in a victory over a team known as “Charlotte”. They were not so fortunate making a Meggetland debut against a team of Indian students from Edinburgh University, losing out by 22 runs.
Notable players over the years include Ian Welsh (who once took 10 wickets in a match), Gus McLean, who played until aged 75, Vince Reddy who went on to play National League cricket and international pair Fraser Watts and Katherine Fraser who had brief spells at the club early in their careers.
Highest individual score over the past 99 years is Manish Sachdeva’s 175 against Haddington in 2006.
While centenary plans are still under discussion – options according to Neil Davidson, an honorary president who played from 1983-2016, include a game of beach cricket, a dinner and a T10 tournament – Boroughmuir will enter a 3rd X1 in the new Sunday League this season which is a good way to broaden their horizons?
Captaining the 1st X1 will be Sharez Khan.
