Marchmont cricket club will have three new captains for 2026 – Dhiraj Prakash (2nd X1), Harish Kumar Shankar Naik (3rd X1) and Neil Granger the new 5th X1 along with Rob Malan.
Dhiraj won the 2nd X1 player of the season award in each of the past two seasons.
The highlight of 2026 for Marchmont is expected to be entering a landmark 5th XI into the East League due to excellent recruitment and the continued growth of the club’s membership.
A primary target, too, will be at least emulating the trophy success of 2025 when the prestigious Parks Trophy was won while finishing runner-up in the Braw Skelp T20 trophy.
Alfie Hall again captains a midweek side who are also entered into the inaugural Norman Berger Plate.
In terms of players to watch, Sam Brynes, an opener batter in the 1st XI, took out the Highest Runscorer Award for a total of 589 league runs (932 total runs for the club in all competitions in 2025). Sam also collected the 1st XI Player of the Season Award at the club’s Awards Dinner in January.
