Team “Game of Stones” in big curling win

Some 24 teams took to the ice at Curl Edinburgh to contest the latest edition of The Edinburgh International Curlers Gathering.

This annual competition returned in 2025, after a gap of six years, and continues to attract teams from North America and Europe along with a number of teams from Scotland. After the initial phase of 3×6 end games, teams were ranked 1 to 24 and redrawn into six new divisions, for three more six-end games.

On the final day each division was undecided until all games were played.

Each of the six division winners were presented with crystal glasses, etched with the competition name and year, along with a variety of other prizes.

The tradition of presenting a friendship quaich to one team continues and this year it went to the Canadian team True North Sweep, from Oakville, Ontario.

Team Game of Stones, from Edinburgh, was the overall winner, topping Division One, and remaining unbeaten throughout the weekend. They were presented with the Gathering Quaich while they also received engraved mini curling stones, engraved glasses, plus a selection of
Moonwake Beer from the sponsors.

Another Edinburgh team, Tight and Light, finished in second place and also received mini curling stones and Moonwake Beer. The teams finishing in third and fourth place also received Moonwake Beer.

Stewart Brewing also provided prizes, which were presented to the winners of Divisions 2 and 4. Prizes for all other Divisions were funded by The Gathering.
The event also proved a major social occasion with a dinner and ceilidh held in the Watsonian pavilion at Myreside during which an auction was held for items including two Olympic curling shirts and bottles of whisky.

All told £750 was raised and will go to hosting future gatherings along with a further £720 from the event raffle.
