The boss of Kailzie Fishery near Peebles says they have had a serious build-up of trout that, according to owner Connor Newcombe, are not playing the game on the fly.
So, for one week only, the rules are changing and pellet flies are allowed. Anglers can also feed their peg.
Newcombe said: “For one week only, we’re officially giving you permission to fish the way you’ve always wanted to.
“We need fish out and you (anglers) want bent rods and busy nets. Everybody wins.”
Pellets and pellet flies are provided, if needed, and all fish caught from Monday, Mrch 30, to Friday, April 3, will be re-cycled and released into the bait pond.
Fish removed during pellet week will be replaced on Friday, April 3 with fresh trout from 2lb to 7lb.
A reminder that the Tweed Trout Festival is at Keilzie on Saturday, April 4 from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free and there will be casting competitions, fly fishing demonstrations, drop-in talks, the chance to speak to some of the UK’s best freshwater anglers and to tie flis with John Hood.
