Road Policing Officers in Midlothian deployed to the National Mining Museum yesterday Tuesday 24 March 2026 to conduct a road check.
Officers worked alongside DVSA Officers, to ensure that Road Traffic Act legislation was being complied with and that vehicles were fit for use on the roads.
Numerous vehicles were stopped including cars, light goods vehicles, HGV’s, buses and agricultural vehicles.
During the check the following was identified:-
-1 instance of dangerous driving.
-1 instance of failure to wear a seat belt.
-1 instance of carrying an insecure load.
-2 instances of a driver failing to comply with legislation, governing how long HGV drivers can operate before being required to take a break.
-3 tyres found to be defective and unfit for use on the roads.
-1 car found to be driven without insurance.
-1 car found to be driven with excessive tints fitted to its windows.
-8 prohibitions issued to vehicles, with defects, which rendered vehicles unfit to be used on the roads and requiring immediate attention, including defects to vehicles steering, structures, brakes and tyres.
-Numerous requirements were issued under the vehicle defect rectification scheme (VDRS) to have minor defects repaired within 21 days.
The above issues were dealt with by various means, including conditional offers and requirements under VDRS, which were issued at the roadside and reports, which will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Officers also gave motorists warnings and advice for minor infractions.
Keeping our roads safe is a priority for Police Scotland. We will continue to carry out these checks and work alongside partner agencies to keep our roads safe and communities safe.
