Midweek cricket teams playing under the East of Scotland Association umbrella will have a new competition to embrace this season.

The Norman Berger Trophy has been inaugurated to honour an official who poured heart and soul into the game over many years, organising the venerable Parks Trophy in particular. Aged 91, Norman is still an avid cricket follower.

East official Phil Yelland said: “This trophy recognises the work done by Norman for the Association for over half a century as committee member and treasurer.”

Reflecting the growth in local cricket is the addition of two midweek clubs representing JP Morgan and Chennai Marina.

Meanwhile, Scott Russell (Tranent and Preston Village) takes over as President of the Edinburgh Public Parks Association from Jim Brims (Edinburgh South).
