Heriot’s Rugby are to roll out the red carpet for their all time top points scorer with a celebratory match against the Co-Optimists invitational side at Goldenacre on 5 April.
Scrum half GrAham Wilson joined the club straight from Dollar Academy in 2004 and in 337 first team games has amassed an unprecedented 2733 points.
Included in those statistics are wins in the Scottish Championship , Charity Shield and Scottish Cup where he kicked the winning points.
Coach Bob McKillop says: “We arranged a similar match for the retiring stalwart Stewart Mustard a couple of years ago and Graham enjoys the same legendary statuz at the club.
“There is more too it than the playing side and he is life and soul of the party in social terms and the response of fellow players to the celebratory match says it all with 29 already making it clear they’d like to turn out for the Co-Optimists and honour him.
“Currently, too, Graham continues to put something back as captain of our 2nd XV”
In one respect, though, this son of a former Scotland B stand off, Duncan Wilson (ex Boroughmuir) might still hae been stuck in Ireland after a bizarre episode in the wake of a Heriot’s match against Munster A in the long defunct British and Irish Cup.
Recalls McKillop: “After a match in which Graham found himself in direct opposition to (subsequent Lion) Conor Murray he managed to loe his passport.
“It took a mixture of natural charm and a photograph in the match programme to convince the authorities at Shannon Airport that he was indeed who he claimed to be and should be allowed to travel home!”
