Local shopkeeper Urfan from Muirhouse Post Office arranged a surprise get together by locals to celebrate the 90th birthday of well known local, Tommy Loughray.

Tommy moved to Muirhouse with his family, wife Annabel and sons, John and Donald, in 1970.

As the caretaker of Oxcars Court and Inchmickery Court from 1970 to 1979 he became the Union Shop Steward for all of the caretakers in the Multi Storey Blocks during that time. He took care of many of the residents problems and issues – far beyond the call of duty on many occasions

He moved to Muirhouse Gardens in 1979 and has lived there ever since again helping many neighbours with his DIY Skills.

Originally from Oban in Argyll, Tommy is an accomplished accordion player, and used to play in several of the Scottish Country Dance Bands in the area.

He was also at one time a ladies hairdresser and had his own Salon in Oban for many years.

A man of “many pairts” he also owned a Guest House and Bed and Breakfast in Blackpool before he moved up to live in the capital.

Happy Birthday Tommy!
