The Edinburgh Quartet are holding their Apprentice Final on 28 February bringing the final round of their EQ Apprentice Programme to a grand finale.
Ahead of the performances by the young musicians, and the announcement of the winner, there will be a lunchtime concert from 1pm to 2pm, which is the fourth in the series.
The concert will open with the fourth in the Beethoven op. 18 cycle, the bold and dramatic C-minor quartet. Sally Beamish’s Quartet No. 2, inspired by this particular Beethoven quartet and written soon after her return from a festival in California, reflects an “opening-up” of her musical language – a light, clear reimagining of Beethoven’s themes coloured by American influences. Webern’s early Langsamer Satz closes the programme in a warmly lyrical, late-Romantic glow.
The afternoon event is being held at Stockbridge Parish Church. This is a drop in event, or there are tickets to book at the link below for the lunchtime concert. Audiences are also invited to spend the afternoon listening to the young musicians.

Working together in real time on core string quartet repertoire, this day offers a rare insight into how chamber musicians listen, adapt, communicate and collaborate — all in the moment.”
