A global internet issue earlier tonight, Friday 20 February 2026, has resulted in delays in answering 101 and 999 calls.

The issue occurred around 6pm causing delays of around 90 minutes.

Back-up processes were implemented, and officers say that 999 calls were prioritised during this time.

An investigation is ongoing in relation to this matter and steps are being taken to ensure that anyone who contacted Police Scotland via 101 or 999 receives an appropriate policing response.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 6pm on Friday 20 February, a global internet platform issue created challenges for Police Scotland in being able to answer 101 and 999 calls causing delays for around 90 mins.

“Back-up processes were quickly implemented, and 999 calls were prioritised during this time.

“This issue impacted multiple organisations and we continue to work with the relevant agencies to understand the full circumstances of this matter, and to ensure anyone who contacted us via 101 or 999 receives an appropriate policing response.”
