Chris Griffiths, a 27-year-old member of Clovenstone Boxing Club, is currently flying the flag for Scotland in the inaugural season of Amazon Prime’s “Trainer Games” television programme.
This is a groundbreaking reality show in association with iFIT that pits the world’s fittest against each other in the ultimate test of strength, endurance, and skill. The show has just premiered, with the first two episodes now available on Amazon Prime and iFIT.
On the show Chris compete alongside Olympians, Ironman winners, ultra-marathoners, world record holders, triathletes, American Ninja Warriors, military veterans, fitness influencers with millions of followers, and professional trainers.
An understandably proud Chris contacted The Edinburgh Reporter to say: “Of 120,000 applicants only 12 were chosen.”
As well as boxing for the Clovenstone club he works as manager of Edinburgh fitness equipment retailer Fitshop. He is also a qualified personal trainer, fitness coach, yoga instructor, boxing coach and host of a weekly run club.”
What makes Chris’s journey more remarkable is the fact that, in childhood, he was plagued with injuries and medical conditions affecting his legs, requiring multiple surgeries. Aged 18 he was unable to walk for six months.
Chris says: “I wasn’t able to run until I was around 25. After university, I spent a period working in bars and restaurants, during which I gained 50kg (110lbs) and developed unhealthy eating and drinking habits. Boxing and running transformed my life, and I shifted my focus to helping others improve their health—a mission deeply personal to me.
“At the end of 2024, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was no longer able to work, and this became an even greater motivation for me to succeed. I wanted to provide her with the life she deserved, and this personal drive has pushed me harder than ever in my training and in competing on Trainer Games against some of the world’s fittest athletes.”
