RH Corstorphine Cricket Club will usher in the new season with a 70th anniversary dinner.
The event, to be held at the Village Hotel, Crewe Toll, on 11 April will see ex-players fly in from as far afield as Australia and the Middle East to join some of those who helped the club finish a highly commendable fourth in the latest Eastern Premiership.
Organiser Arnie Sathiy said: “Our club has grown out of the Laidlaw and Drew works team in the 1950’s. From there we became Corstorphine CC before moving from Union Park to the Royal High playing fields at Barnton in the early 2000s.
Some distinguished names continue to wear club colours – Scotland caps George Munsey and Brandon McMullan spring instantly to mind – and Surindar Khanna graduated out of Corstorphine to the Indian team while Hammad Azam played for Pakistan.
Moving up to date the 2025 Eastern Premiership had Liam Naylor, Jonathan van Zyl and Owen Gould among the top 10 batters with Calum Clarkson and Tyler Stagg among the most prolific wicket takers.
Sathiy while also acknowledging the likes of Asim Butt, Shahid Aslam, James Shaw and Tarque Williamson makes special mention of what he calls “the ghosts who will be looking down on us.”
He adds: “The likes Tom Greig, Frank Lawrie, Eric Caw and Frank Ingham laid our foundations and hold a special place.
“If there is one thing I am particularly proud of, though, it is the fact that the LOWEST run aggregate on our pitch for a league game in 2025 was 490 and the highest over 800.
“That shows our people know how to prepare a deck and to be voted best in the league by players and second best by umpires is an honour.
“We are proud, too, of turning out five men’s and one women’s team each week.”
