ScotRail passengers are urged to check their journey ahead of major improvement works by Network Rail taking place between Edinburgh and Fife.

No trains will operate between Haymarket and Dalmeny from 17 January to 25 January inclusive, while engineers carry out round-the-clock work to modernise the route.

The rail operator is to run diverted train services where possible, alongside rail replacement buses serving local stations. Alternative public transport options are also available.

A spokesperson for ScotRail has said that although there are also separate planned road closures at Admiralty in Fife, any roadwork restrictions will be removed prior to the first rail replacement buses operating in the morning. The rail company is “satisfied that the works will not negatively affect their plans in the evenings”.

Customers are advised to plan ahead, check their journey before travelling, and familiarise themselves with the alternative travel options available.

A route-by-route breakdown is available on the ScotRail website.

The work in Fife is the latest phase of the Scottish Government’s wider programme to decarbonise Scotland’s Railway, supporting cleaner, quieter, and more reliable journeys.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “Network Rail’s upcoming work is a vital stage in the Fife electrification project, paving the way for long-term improvements that will benefit customers for years to come.

“We’ve put alternative travel plans in place to help keep people moving, and we encourage customers to take a moment to check their options before travelling. Some journeys may take longer than usual, so planning ahead will make things easier.

“Our website and the ScotRail app have the latest information, and we’ll continue to provide clear updates and support throughout the works. We appreciate everyone’s patience as these essential upgrades are delivered.”
