Police are appealing for the driver of a vehicle to come forward after it failed to stop following a collision with a young boy in Penicuik.

The incident happened on Mauricewood Road at around 8.40am on Thursday, 22 January, 2026.

The vehicle was travelling south approaching the junction with Boyd-Orr Drive. The 10-year-old boy pedestrian suffered an arm injury which was assessed at hospital.

The vehicle involved is described as a red or orange car, possibly with markings on the side. The driver was believed to be female.

PC Ross Young, said: “The driver will have been aware they hit the child and thankfully he sustained only minor injuries.

“The car could have been like a Citroen Cactus, but the make and model are not confirmed. I’d ask anyone who saw what happened, or who was driving on Mauricewood Road around the time and witnessed the vehicle, to come forward.”
