Livingston manager David Martindale blamed his “shambolic” defence for the 2-0 defeat by Motherwell which leaves the West Lothian side six points adrift at the bottom of the William Hill Premiership.

The Lions were tamed by highly-rated Tawanda Maswanhise who scored twice in the first half – five and 28 minutes -and could have easily accumulated a hat-trick.

Martindale said: “Really, really poor defensively, it’s from an area of the park that shouldn’t cause us any real problems.”

He pin-pointed mistakes in the 6-2 defeat at Aberdeen and it was the same again at home to Motherwell.

Martindale said: “Last week was shocking defensively. There were individual errors. Today, there were individual errors again and they’ve cost us any opportunity to take something from the game.”

Now, the Livi boss must lift his men for the visit of Falkirk to the Home of the Set Fare Arena on Wednesday (19.45).

Critical Martindale said: “Set plays, we look as through we’ve never working on them, and we get a wee bit lucky to go at 2-0 half-time.”

And he told BBC Sport Scotland: “We’re in big trouble the way we’re defending, that’s me being honest.”
