An Edinburgh care home will honour Burns with the usual tradition, and some special pipes.
On 21 January from 2.30pm, residents and team members at Care UK’s Cairdean House, on Redford Road in Colinton, will be dressed in their best tartan attire as they welcome the local community ahead of the upcoming Burns Night.
To start off the day, guests can enjoy a procession led by a piper who will fill the home with the sounds of Scotland. Resident, Wilma Temple, will recite the traditional “Address to the Haggis”.
The entertainment will continue with a poetry recital from resident, Jim McLeod, honouring the national bard.
After the performance, guests are invited to enjoy a little taste of Burns with a selection of specially prepared bites created by the home’s head chef, and of course, Irn-Bru.
Visitors can join in a lively ceilidh from 6pm to 7.30pm, featuring traditional music, dancing and plenty of cheer.
Resident at Cairdean House, Dorothy Pollett, said: “I am very much looking forward to the Burns celebrations where we all get together and celebrate! The Ceilidh will be a delight to look forward to.”
Angela Burns, Home Manager at Cairdean House, said: “We can’t wait to celebrate Burns Night with the community. Many of the residents have fond memories of marking the occasion in their younger years, so this is a wonderful opportunity for them to reminisce and share stories with their loved ones.
“We warmly invite the people of Edinburgh and beyond to join us and don their best hats and tartan scarves. It’s sure to be an event to remember!”
Cairdean House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
