The Secretary of State for Business and Trade has appointed five new UK Trade Envoys, among them Chris Murray, MP for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh.
Mr Murray has been appointed a the UK’s Trade Envoy to France.
He said: “It’s a huge honour to be appointed UK Trade Envoy to France. I know that so many people in Edinburgh value our relationship with European neighbours, and I will continue to work as hard as I can to repair them after Brexit. The UK’s trade with France is worth over £100 billion, from sectors as diverse as energy and defence to fashion, financial services and fish. A few months ago we celebrated 730 years of the Auld Alliance in St Giles Cathedral, the longest-running alliance in the world. I will work as hard as I can to secure new trade links with France to the benefit of Edinburgh, as well as the rest of UK and France.”
The government says that UK Trade Envoys are appointed by the Business and Trade Secretary to drive UK economic growth through exports and investment.
“They are tasked with identifying trade and investment opportunities for businesses and championing the UK as a destination of choice for investment in their respective markets, working closely with the Department for Business and Trade.”
This is an unpaid role which helps develop bilateral trade relationships, lead trade missions, welcome inward delegations, and address market access challenges to ensure British firms can thrive.

- Calvin Bailey MP as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to the Republic of South Africa and Mauritius
- Florence Eshalomi MP as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Ghana
- Yasmin Qureshi MP as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Algeria.
