The Chief Executive Officer of the Eric Liddell Community, John Macmillan has received an MBE in the New Year Honours List from HM The King.
He has held the role since 2016, steering the care charity which provides specialist day care support for individuals with a diagnosis of dementia. The centre also provides care and befriending programmes, volunteering opportunities, a community café and a varied programme of activities and educational opportunities for all members of the community.
In recent years the charity celebrated 100 years since Eric Liddell won the Olympic Gold Medal in Paris with a year long tribute. He also welcomed HRH The Princess Royal as royal patron.
John Macmillan said: “I am honoured and delighted to have been awarded an MBE in the 2026 New Years Honours List for Community Development, Sports and Social Enterprise.
“Whether working with young people, adults and communities in Lanarkshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Ayrshire and more recently at The Eric Liddell Community, I’ve endeavoured to make a positive impact on the lives and learning of individuals, communities and the legacy of Eric Liddell (via The Eric Liddell 100.)
“I do thank the many wonderful and hard working staff, colleagues and volunteers that I’ve had the pleasure of working with, who contributed to this recognition.”
