Police in West Lothian have seen an increase in keyless car thefts across the area.
Criminals are using signal-boosting devices to unlock and start cars without needing the physical key—often in just a few seconds.
Police Scotland has now issued the following advice to protect your vehicle with these simple steps:
• Keep keys away from doors and windows. Store them centrally in your home.
• Use a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday bag) for your keys and spare keys.
• Consider a steering wheel lock – visible deterrents are highly effective.
• Update your vehicle’s software where possible to improve security features.
• Look out for suspicious behaviour, especially individuals walking close to cars with electronic devices.
If you see anything unusual, please report it to us immediately via 101, or 999 in an emergency.
