The South African born full back, now plying his trade in Scotland’s capital, was reminiscing this Autumn as he met up with old teammates.
“I caught up with the All Black boys when they were over here – I’ve got a few good mates in the team. A few dinners, I went for a few beers after the game with them, so it was quite nice”
Goosen signed with Edinburgh in 2022 after a successful six-year stint at the Hurricanes in Super Rugby. Will be fulfilment of his contract with Edinburgh he will be eligible to play for the Scottish national team.
He praised the atmosphere at Murrayfield and the Scottish fans calling it a “one-of-a-kind experience” but has implied it is not at the forefront of his mind.
He would be a welcomed addition to the Scotland team. With his well-known scoring ability and all round sturdiness and consistency wherever he plays.
Looking ahead to the Ospreys game
Edinburgh’s season has been a frustrating one so far with just nine points across five games. This weekend will be vital for their hopes of building some momentum for the next block of games, and will require an injection of energy, especially after the lengthy break.
“This game here is a must-win for us. We’re excited to be back here at the Hive. We’ve had a few close losses, but if we win this game, we get our season back on track.”
Scotland did not see much success either in their autumn campaign which begs the question of will the returning players be able to pull themselves from the disparity. However, Goosen insists the team’s culture will negate that.
“The expectation is that we pick them up. They’ve had a tough four or five weeks of international rugby, so they’ve got to come to our standards instead of them easing into it. We lead and they have to follow.”
