Edinburgh is set to welcome back one of Scotland’s most beloved holiday traditions as Phil Cunningham’s Christmas Songbook returns for 2025.
The long-running show promises to deliver festive cheer, heartwarming music, and a memorable experience for audiences across the city this December.
This year, The Queen’s Hall will host three performances on 19 December, 21 December, and 22 December. Audiences can expect the same signature blend of traditional and contemporary Christmas tunes, captivating storytelling, and expertly arranged music that has made the Songbook a seasonal highlight for nearly two decades.
Phil Cunningham, the celebrated accordionist who leads the production, said the Christmas Songbook is his favourite time of year. He described it as an opportunity to bring people together to share music, laughter, and the spirit of the season. Cunningham added that the performances will feature a mix of classics and contemporary carols, and he looked forward to seeing audiences sing along and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
The show features a star-studded lineup of Scotland’s most respected musicians. Eddi Reader will bring her incomparable voice to the stage, accompanied by the soulful Karen Matheson. Multi-instrumentalist John McCusker, Orcadian folk sensation Kris Drever, guitar virtuoso Ian Carr, and versatile double bassist Kevin McGuire will also join Cunningham, combining their talents to create a rich and vibrant musical experience.
As part of the seasonal setting, the venue and surrounding areas are decorated with modern festive elements, including LED displays and neon signs by Crazy Neon, which complement the traditional holiday lighting and add to the celebratory atmosphere.
For nineteen years, the Christmas Songbook has been a cherished holiday tradition across Scotland. It has grown from a small seasonal performance into a widely celebrated tour that highlights the country’s musical heritage while offering audiences a joyful and festive celebration.
