Alexander Schwolow, Hearts’ new goalkeeper, turned his back on several options to sign in at Tynecastle and said: “I am very happy. It reminds me of the stadium in Freiburg which I loved.”
After touring the stadium the 6ft 3in stopper told Hearts TV: “It is very nice. I had the opportunity to watch the last game and and I saw what you can expect from Hearts, and I was totally excited to come here.
“I look for a challenge, I look for an opportunity and the talks with Hearts were, from the beginning very nice. I felt the people are very warm.
“When I came here the felling got better and better and that is why I came here.”
The 33-year-old has spent his entire career in Germany and admitted moving to the William Hill Premiership was a huge challenge but added: “For me, I see it as an opportunity, to grow, to see new things, to learn to show my qualities and that is my plan. I hope it works out.”
The free agent, who has experience of Champions League football, admitted to having a limited knowledge of the game in Scotland, but has seen the Tartan team in action in international fixtures and watched the Jambos in their last game.
He said: “I think it is very intense football, a lot of heart and I like this style of play.”
