Fife Flyers head coach Jamie Russell was encouraged by the bounce back from his men despite the 3-2 home defeat by Glasgow Clan at The Fife Ice Arena.
Only 24-hours earlier, Fife were overpowered by Belfast Giants in Northern Ireland, the home side claiming an emphatic 8-0 win in front of 6,258 fans.
However, Fife were competitive on Sunday in their own building despite Glasgow edging ahead after 6min 34sec through Tristin Langan.
It took another 12 minutes before Fife levelled, Mason Alderson being set up by Keaton Jameson and the home side edged ahead 1min 57sec into the second session when Josh Winquist netted short-handed with an assist by Johan Porsberger. Ian Scheid was in the sin bin for tripping.
Flyers joy was short-lived as Clan netted on the power play after 22min 19sec through Hugo Roy and the visitors edged ahead for the second time when Alex Forbes counted after 31min 29sec.
The scoreline stayed that way deep into the third and Fife suffered a scare when Clan appeared to have scored their fourth inside the final ten minutes but a video review initiated by the referees said no goal.
Then the home side hit penalty trouble when skipper Garet Hunt was called for fighting and handed a 20-minute penalty with less than four minutes left on the clock.
The short-benched Kirkcaldy club called a time out inside the final minute but could not find the net and ended up on the losing side again in a game in which Clan outshot Fife 41-35 on the night.
Russell commented: “We were not good in Belfast but there was a terrific response against Clan.”
Elsewhere, Dundee Stars were edged 6-5 at Clan on Saturday after overtime. Stars held a 3-0 lead after 20min 44sec but let that slip. On Sunday, Dundee beat Belfast 5-2 on Tayside despite being outshot 33-25.
