D&G Autocare, the independent garage group, has added another garage to its network, bringing the total to 19.
A new £200,000 facility has been opened in the Wardpark Industrial Estate in Cumbernauld which is added to those in South Gyle, Whitburn, Musselburgh and Livingston and elsewhere in the UK.
The business is now one short of its pre pandemic target of having 20 garages launched within twenty years of the business.
Last year D&G expanded into England, setting up its 18th branch of “the friendly garage” in Carlisle, Cumbria.
D&G now offers comprehensive coverage across the whole of the Central Belt. With three garages in Lanarkshire already, in Airdrie, Rutherglen and East Kilbride, the launch of the new garage in Cumbernauld means that this part of Scotland is now well served. In the East, fourteen garages stretch from Fife and Edinburgh, to West Lothian, Perth, Stirling, and Tayside.
With experienced mechanic, Stefan McMahon heading up the new branch as Manager, D&G Cumbernauld currently employs five locally based mechanics, with plans to add to its current Apprentice Mechanic Scheme later in the year.
Pete Wood, Operations Director for the D&G Autocare Group said: “We are incredibly pleased to have reached garage number nineteen.
“This well known Industrial Estate, easily accessed off Junction 6 of the M80, is a prime location, situated in a traditional Industrial Estate setting, in which we will gain visibility and perform well.
“As we said when we launched the Carlisle garage last year, only the pandemic put paid to us having a twenty garage network, within twenty years of the business being founded in 2004.
“We had to shelve plans to open more garages, delaying them by a few years, but are back on track, and hope to introduce garage number twenty, in 2026, if we find the right location.”
Pete also explained that every garage that D&G opens represents an average investment of around £200,000.
He said: “It is a very large undertaking to fit out, equip and staff a new facility. We do so, using our trusted network of equipment and machinery suppliers.”
He also said that this latest launch in Cumbernauld, “demonstrates that we certainly see yet more growth in the Scottish marketplace. Although we made the move into England last year, and may yet look to expand further down south, the Scottish Central Belt remains our heartland.
“In Lanarkshire, with our two other branches, we wanted to meet demand right across the area for both our retail and business customers.”
The new D&G branch is a DVSA Vehicle MOT Testing Station, for Class 4 and 7, serving cars, and vans, together with light commercial vehicles (LCV).
Pete said: “As we have identified Wardpark Industrial Estate enjoys strong transport connections, and has many with other businesses nearby, including busy Distribution Centres, and, of course, the Wardpark dedicated Film Studio.”
D&G Cumbernauld offers a full remit of autocare services, including full servicing, MOTs, garage repairs, and wheel alignment, together with the expert fitting of tyres, exhausts, brakes, suspensions, timing belts, clutches and batteries. It also offers air con recharge and has ADAS Setting Equipment.
