The Head Housekeeper at James Thomson’s Prestonfield House has been named AA Housekeeper of the Year at the recent awards ceremony.

Charged with leading the housekeeping team at the hotel he ensures that the luxury venue maintains its standards and 5 Red Star status. He has worked at the hotel for 15 years and has been Head Housekeeper for 12 of those.

Looking after Prestonfield includes caring for the antique furnishings and tapestries for which it is renowned as well as presenting the guest rooms to the hotel’s own demanding requirements. He has led the team by example – personally inspecting rooms and mentoring new members of the Prestonfield staff. His time management system has reduced housekeeping staff costs by almost 20%. And he has led the way when it comes to ensuring that the hotel meets sustainability targets, with single use plastics replaced by eco-friendly alternatives.

“His unwavering commitment, meticulous attention to detail and warm demeanour, make him a thoroughly deserving winner of this esteemed award.”

Amit Pal said: “Winning the award is an incredible honour and a proud milestone in my career. Housekeeping is often the forgotten hero of hospitality, so to be recognised by the AA means the world to me and my team at Prestonfield. I take great pride in caring for our 17th-century historic house for all our visitors and guests, and to have that commitment acknowledged is truly rewarding”

James Thomson, owner of Prestonfield House, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Amit has been recognised with this prestigious award. His dedication, meticulous attention to detail, and genuine care for our guests and historic property reflect the very best of Prestonfield House. This award honours not only Amit’s exceptional contribution but also the passion and commitment of the entire team who make our hotel so special.”
