Berwick Bandits skipper Danyon Hume has undergone surgery to stabilise two vertebrae in his back.
It was damaged in a crash in Heat 12 of the Cab Direct Championship meeting against Edinburgh Monarchs in the Borders on Saturday.
Hume was taken to the Northern Specialist Care Hospital in Cramlington after being in collision with an opponent’s bike in the home straight at Shielfield Park.
The 28-year-old had surgery earlier this week and confirmed to the Borders’ club management that the operation had been successful.
