Marchmont defeated Murrayfield DAFS in a last ball thriller at Newfield to lift the venerable Edinburgh Parks cricket trophy for the first time since 2003.

With the teams level on runs scored and wickets down – 157-7 – and Marchmont at the crease what would have been the final delivery of the 20 overs a side final was called wide sealing the deal.

Responding to their target man of the match Tyler Spagnuolo made 47 and Sam Brynes 35.

Earlier Murrayfield dafs, who won the toss;had 30’s from Kiran Bhaskar and Brad Peters.

In the Marchmont bowling attack Jayesh Salgaonkar took 3-35.

Most successful Murrayfield dafs bowlers were Smit Shah and Immadullah Khan with two apiece.

The Parks Trophy dates back to 1922. The last time these two teams met in the final was 28 years ago.
