A number of Hibs players have been on international duty. Here’s how they got on.
Kieron Bowie was rewarded with a first call-up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad at the beginning of June, but he had to wait patiently for his chance.
The 22-year-old was an unused substitute as the Scots were beaten 3-1 by Iceland at Hampden Park, but earned his first cap three days later – coming off the bench to help Scotland to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller both started the crucial qualifiers against Japan and Saudi Arabia. The Socceroos beat Japan 1-0 in Perth to put them on the brink of qualification – before overcoming Saudi Arabia 2-1 in Jeddah to seal automatic qualification.
Australia came from behind to win, turning a 1-0 deficit on its head, with Boyle providing a vital assist for Mitch Duke’s winning goal!
The result means Australia finished second in Group C with 19 points from 10 games – qualifying for their seventh World Cup in their history and their sixth consecutive World Cup in a row.
Elsewhere, Jordan Obita also made his first senior international caps – representing Uganda!
The Hibs left-back made his debut against Cameroon – playing the full 90 minutes at left-back.
The 31-year-old also started against The Gambia, where he came up Hibs against teammate Alasana Manneh. The teams couldn’t be separated on the day, playing out a 1-1 draw in the friendly fixture.
Alasana Manneh got more minutes under his belt representing The Gambia over the June international break. The Gambia beat Equatorial Guinea 2-1 before, drawing 1-1 with Uganda at The Mandela National Stadium.
Manneh equalised from the penalty spot – scoring his first goal for The Gambia.
Rocky Bushiri added to his list of international caps earlier this month, representing DR Congo in an international friendly.
Rocky was an unused substitute against Mali, but played the full 90 minutes as The Leopards beat Madagascar 3-1.
Nathan Moriah-Welsh was on World Cup qualification duty with Guyana for their double header against Nicaragua and Montserrat.
The Golden Jaguars lost their first match 1-0 against Nicaragua but got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Montserrat.
Moriah-Welsh played the full 90 minutes in both games, utilised in defence in the first match – before returning to midfield and bagging an assist in the second. Guyana are currently third in Group D, with six points from four games.
