The Scottish Beacon is holding its very first public event in Edinburgh during Indie News Week which will take place between 3 and 9 June 2024.
The week long events are being promoted by the Public Interest News Foundation (PINF) which seeks to support independent news in the UK.
The Edinburgh Reporter is a founder member of The Scottish Beacon, which is a collaborative journalism project.
Everyone is invited to the Edinburgh event which will feature talks and discussions about local news, and will take place on 7 June at Grassmarket Community Project.
No news is good news. Or is it?Â
Without news, how would you know about the issues affecting your community? How would you know what your council was planning or whether they were acting within the law. How would you know if your local environment was being impacted and by whom? And how would you know about the positive changes in your area, the success stories?Â
As long as you have a local independent news source in your area, your community can stay informed – but sadly, far too many news providers are struggling to keep going.
No news is bad news.
The Scottish Beacon is a collective of 24 independent local news providers from all over Scotland who want to strengthen local news by amplifying stories and provided trusted, vital information which are actually written by people who know their communities best.Â
The Edinburgh Reporter is joining the “No News is Bad News” campaign, and in June as part of Indie News Week, The Scottish Beacon is hosting the one day event packed with interesting conversations, lively debates and workshops.
