James Gillespie’s HS earned praise after competing strongly in  the S1-3 division final of the Scottish Schools water polo tournament.

The Gillespie’s team show off their silver medals after the S1-S3 water polo championships.

Inaugurated back in 2009, the tournament attracted eight schools from across the country with the Lothians flag also being flown by Portobello and Currie HS.

In an exceptionally tight final Gillespie’s were squeezed out 3-2 by the High School of Dundee.

Third place went to Woodmill HS, Dunfermline, with Portobello in fourth place.

Next month there will be a schools “open” competition doe S1-S6 pupils in Dunfermline.

Gillespie’s High School coach Neal Raynor: was pleased with his side’s performance.

“We did extraordinarily well with a young team of mixed club and non-club players.   We won four games including a penalty shootout to make the final which we barely lost.  But we were madly taking shots trying to get that final goal and we just couldn’t quite manage.  We’ll be back to win next year!” said Neal.
