Swinney’s first Cabinet meeting

John Swinney, the newly elected First Minister will hold his first Cabinet meeting this morning as First Minister, before making some visits around Scotland.

Later today he will meet health staff at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, see near completed works on the Levenmouth Rail Link in Fife, and visit IGS, a highly successful international vertical farm company in Dundee.

The whole cabinet has now been named with 11 Cabinet Secretaries including Mr Swinney and 14 Ministers who will be their support.

Friday Night Lights

This is a great initiative by local police doing what police officers used to do – engage with young people. Tonight will be the second week of their football evenings for young people aged 11 to 18 at Big Hearts Community Trust Wheatfield Stand so not too late to join in.

Edinburgh Convention Bureau will be run by the council

After demands for more funding at last week’s Finance Committee were rejected, the council is now poised to run the Edinburgh Convention Bureau in house rather than handing it over on a permanent basis to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The EIFF has announced the opening night film will star Saoirse Ronan in The Outrun which is set in Orkney where our Scottish Beacon colleagues at The Orkney News produce the independent local newspaper.
