The 215 acre site at Bangour has been empty for some years, but now investors Roundshield and property developers, Ambassador Group, have confirmed that a deal has been struck with Barratt Homes to sell 14.55 acres of the land to them for 179 new houses, once initial infrastructure is completed.

In addition the owners have secured a loan of £21 million to help them form up the roads and other infrastructure needed for the development.

On the site where once a hospital stood in many separate buildings, it is expected that eventually there will be 998 energy efficient homes in a village setting. There will be transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, 13 heritage buildings which will be refurbished and converted to apartments, and a fifth of the homes will be affordable housing. The development will include a new primary school, nursery, playing fields and a commercial hub with shops. The village will be set in woodlands most of which will be preserved.

There will also be a central district heating system, EV charging points and green spaces.
