Donald Cameron MSP is standing down from The Scottish Parliament to become part of the Scotland Office team at Westminster.

The King has approved his appointment as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Scotland Office and His Majesty has also conferred a peerage of the United Kingdom for Life on Donald Cameron who becomes Lord Cameron.

Lord Cameron who qualified as an advocate at the Scottish Bar has represented the Highlands and Islands as a list member of The Scottish Parliament for seven years. He is the son of the late Master of Lochiel, and on his father’s death became the Lochiel. The next ranking candidate on the Conservative list, Tim Eagle will now become an MSP. The resignation of a list MSP does not cause a by-election.

Alister Jack, Secretary of State for Scotland, said: “I welcome Donald Cameron’s appointment at the Scotland Office.

“He is a talented lawyer as well as an experienced parliamentarian. I know Donald will do a great job helping us to deliver on the priorities of people in Scotland.”
