Nick Montgomery and Steven Naismith condemned Hibs fans for pelting Lawrence Shankland with objects, including a pie and a football, while the Scotland striker waited for VAR to adjudicate on a possible penalty at the end of the first-half of Wednesday’s Edinburgh Derby.

The Easter Road boss said: “Nobody condones that, I don’t condone that, Steven (Naismith) does not condone that, neither do both clubs. I don’t want to talk about that, but that is something that needs addressing.

“We are talking about a minority here, a few that probably let everybody down in the stadium.”

He also said there were “one of two incidents” when his players had “things thrown” at them. Stewards had to move in at one point to screen a Hibs player at a corner flag at the Gorgie Road end, but, overall, Montgomery said: “I thought the fans were outstanding, I thought we played really well and we deserved three points.”

Naismith also made his feelings clear as well as complementing Shankland for his calmness during the VAR check. He claimed that visiting fans could be cut in the future and said: “It is just not acceptable. It is a good atmosphere, it is a good Derby and a fierce rivalry, but it is just idiots that is going to spoil it for everybody.”
