Hibs have announced the loan signing of Emiliano Marcondes from AFC Bournemouth until the end of the season.

The Danish midfielder becomes their second transfer of the window and is perhaps a sign of more to come between Bournemouth and Hibs as the club await SFA approval of Bill Foley’s investment.

Marcondes has made more than 250 career appearances and has represented his country at every youth age group.

The 28-year-old considers himself a creative midfielder who plays in between the lines and can get goals and assists.

He was part of the Bournemouth team that achieved promotion to the Premier League and scored a crucial goal at Wembley when Brentford won the play-off final in 2021.

The cogs for this signing began turning in Dubai when Marcondes was training on his own at the same time Hibs were there as a squad.

After catching Nick Montomery’s eye the head coach took the opportunity to pitch Hibs to the Dane, showing him his system and how he could fit into it.

Montgomery said: “We’re delighted to get this signing over the line. Emiliano is a top player and one that adds extra quality to our squad.

“A player of his ability always has a lot of interest, but through numerous conversations and him watching how we play, he has really bought into Hibs and the part he can play here in the second half of the season.

“As a player, he’s very intelligent and is a specialist from dead ball situations. We look forward to working with him for the remainder of the season.”

After a quiet start to the transfer window, it has been a busy couple days for Hibs who have also announced the departures of Riley Harbottle and Max Boruc on loan to Colchester and Arbroath respectively.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luke Amos continues to train with the team as Nick Montgomery ponders over offering the 26-year-old a permanent deal.

Marcondes will be available for selection on Wednesday against Rangers and Montgomery was hopeful that Myziane Maloida, who was announced last week, could make his debut subject to International clearance

Kick off for Wednesday’s game is 7.45pm at Easter Road.
