Glasgow Clan’s nightmare start to the new Premier Sports Elite League season just got worse.

The club, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, skidded to their eighth straight defeat in all competitions following a narrow 3-2 reverse at Braehead on Friday, despite taking the lead and battling hard, blocking shots and hitting hard.

Mathieu Roy fired the puck into the rigging from close range after five minutes to have the majority of the fans in the 2,500-plus crowd on their feet.

Six minutes later Belfast Giants, sponsored by Stena Line, were level when Scott Conway claimed the first of a glory treble, firing high into the net after catching Clan cold after a lengthy break to replace a shattered pane of plexi-glass which showered a rinkside spectator, cutting his head and requiring attention from first aiders, and had his son in tears.

Seven minutes into the middle session the visitors went ahead when razor-sharp Conway profited from a rebound from Clan’s netminder Zach Driscoll but determined Clan, minus suspended coach Malcolm Cameron, dug deep to level when Steve McPartland counted after good stick work near goal.

Nine minutes later Conway claimed the game-winner with the goal of the night following a slick three-man move involving Mark Cooper and Kevin Raine.

Elsewhere, Dundee Stars suffered in a 6-2 defeat at Nottingham Panthers with the home side taking command with a 3-0 first session followed by a 1-0 middle period. The sides shared the third 2-2. Jeremy Welsh netted twice for Panthers.
