Name – Stephen Jenkinson
Party – Labour
Ward – Pentland Hills

I am married with two teenage children and have lived and worked in Edinburgh all my life. I am an IT specialist and I have worked in financial services for 28 years. I am a committed trade unionist and I have played a key role in organising in my workplace over many years. The trade union movement led me to the Labour Party where I quickly got involved in helping to organise in my local party. I have helped to win many elections for Labour over the years this is something I am very proud of.

My key issues: There are five key issues I am campaigning on in Pentland Hills:

  1. Improving public transport ensuring it is a suitable alternative to car usage.
  2. Ensuring all children in the ward have safe walking and cycling routes to and from school.
  3. Getting the basics right. Focussing on fly-tipping, littering, dog-fouling weeds and graffiti.
  4. Supporting local businesses, charities and community organisations to recover from COVID.
  5. Improving roads and footpaths with a ‘fix it right, first time’ approach to pot holes.

Other candidates will say support them in order to oppose Boris Johnson or Nicola Sturgeon, however I believe it is better to vote FOR something. A vote for me is a vote for a Councillor that will put this Ward and our city first. It’s a vote for a Councillor who wants to improve this area for everyone who lives and works here and it’s a vote for a Councillor who will represent this Ward in the Council not the other way around.

Labour’s achievements: As the junior partner in the current council coalition it has been difficult for us to deliver as much of our manifesto as we would have liked however against the backdrop of annual cuts to our budget from the SNP in Holyrood I think the labour group has done a remarkable job protecting council workers from redundancy and shepherding the city through the Covid pandemic.

What is the thing that few people would know about you

I am a big fan of American Football I watch it every Sunday during the season. Those following me on Facebook or Twitter will have seen me sporting my New York Giants woolly hat with pride as I’ve been out campaigning in the cold.
