Schools and nurseries in Scotland will be closed from Friday – and could be closed until the autumn.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced at a press conference at 1.00pm that a decision has now been taken to close schools and nurseries.

She also said that parents should not assume they will reopen for the summer term. Arrangements for exams and those who depend on free school meals will also be announced by the Deputy First Minister tomorrow at Holyrood.

Schools in Wales are also closing from the end of the week and it is likely that the UK Government will announce a similar move later today.
