Jen Wilson, Scotland women’s hockey team head coach, admitted to having to make tough decisions before confirming her her squad for the FIH Series Finals in Banbridge, Ireland, from June 8 to 16.

This is Scotland’s first international tournament since the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games last year and it kick-starts a huge summer of hockey for the squad.

Wilson’s squad, ranked No 18 in the world, face France, ranked at No 30, Korea, who are not in the world’s top 35, and Ukraine, ranked No 26, in Pool B qualifiers. Pool A features Ireland, Czech Republic, Malaysia and Singapore.

And it is France who will be Scotland’s first opponents in the tournament on Saturday 8 June.
Korea follow 24-hours later and the game against Ukraine is on Tuesday, June 11.

Wilson has included several players from Edinburgh including Kerry-Anne Hastings, daughter of former Scotlkand and British Lions rugby star Scott Hastings, who is pictured above.

Wilson said: “Selection was closely-contested and this is also keeping in mind that three players are not available due to selection for the FIH Pro League with Great Britain.

“There is very healthy competition within the squad, which makes for some tough decisions for myself and my coaching team.”

She added: “We are extremely pleased with the squads’ progress in adapting to a new style of play and the strides they have taken in a very short time.”
