Edinburgh Iranian Festival – Various Venues

Celebrating its tenth year the festival returns jam-packed with the best of Middle Eastern culture including music, food, fashion, dance, art and poetry, and cinema. The festival which aims to address misconceptions around the culture will also encourage collaborations across cultures including a free bagpipe concert featuring both Scottish and Iranian musicians at the National Museum on 2 March 2019.

Edinburgh International Festival of Middle Eastern Spirituality and Peace – Various Venues

Drawing together people from a variety of spiritual backgrounds, cultures, traditions and communities this international festival celebrates peace and mutual understanding through a variety of events. This will be delivered through a number of educational, artistic and cultural events including a wellbeing workshop with Gillian Allan.

Beauty and the Beast – Edinburgh Festival Theatre

Last seen in Edinburgh in 2008, Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to the city this month with its classic narrative ballet. David Bintley’s take on gives the late 18th century a dark and mysterious edge, concluding to love and light. Performers are required to wear animal masks throughout forcing them to convey all emotion through movement.

Just in time for St Patrick’s day, a wee bit of Ireland will descend on the city in the form of a multi-arts, family-friendly celebration of the links between Edinburgh and Ireland. The festival will feature storytelling, music, dance, talks and comedy events.

Shakin’ Stevens – The Queen’s Hall

The eighties icon will be making a stop at The Queen’s Hall on his biggest ever UK tour. The Welsh singer will be treating audiences his old hits including ‘This Ole House’ and ‘Green Door’ as well as a few surprises. With 33 hit singles and four UK top hits to his repertoire the performer has plenty older material to delight fans with. Additionally, he will be treating fans to new tracks from ‘Echoes From Our Time’.

At The Queen’s Hall Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin directed and played by Pekka Kuusisto

Dubbed ‘the David Bowie of the fiddle’, Finnish violinist Pekka Kuuisisto will be teaming up with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra taking audiences on a journey through the music of the past four centuries.
