Edinburgh West MP Christine Jardine has called on the City of Edinburgh Council to look at the facts and extend any low emissions zone into the west of the city.

Transport data firm Inrix has reported that Edinburgh is the sixth most congested city in the UK, sharing the title for slowest city in the UK with London.

Both cities have an inter-city last mile speed of 7MPH.

St John’s Road and Queensferry Road are some of Scotland’s most congested and polluted roads.

Ms Jardine said: “The traffic problems that frustrate residents of West Edinburgh  have rumbled on for far too long.

“Pedestrianising the city centre and pushing traffic out into the West only exacerbates the problems my constituents are having. It doesn’t take account of the collateral impact on our streets.

“I have been running a campaign to reflect the concerns of my constituents about this issue and submitted them to the council. I hope that they will act on this appropriately.”
