Highlights to include motocross and trials bike displays, birds of prey and static vehicle exhibits
Freestyle motocross riders Broke FMX will perform a thrilling display of acrobatic stunts, often jumping over 35ft in the air over 100ft gaps, while former European bike trial champion Aaron Duke will entertain spectators with his extreme jumps and stunts. Families will be able to enjoy the sight of nature’s wings in action in a birds of prey display that features Steller’s sea eagles, a white tail sea eagle, a bald eagle plus hooded, turkey and white-headed vultures.
Other aerial entertainment at The Wheels and Wings Show includes a colourful display of kites by the Kite Club of Scotland while back on the ground, visitors will be able to roll around in a giant zorb ball, have a go at operating a digger, try out a balance bike or recumbent bike and learn to ride a Segway (age, height and weight restrictions apply).
The Scottish-designed and built Raptor sports car will be on show at the event, in addition to scooters and vintage and classic vehicles including a 1981 DeLorean, a 1975 Jaguar E-type roadster, a 1968 Daimler Saloon, a 1969 Austin Healey sports car, a 1933 Riley Lynx Tourer and a 1911 Ford Model T.
Talks by former Concorde First Officer, Tony Yule, will share the excitement of flying the iconic supersonic aircraft and visitors can also learn about handling a paraglider and discover unusual museum objects with the attraction’s Curator of Aviation.
Other family fun at The Wheels and Wings Show includes mini ride-on aeroplanes and a play area for toddlers as well as the chance to make a bird of prey in a special craft zone.
Entry to The Wheels and Wings Show includes the chance to explore the Museum’s fascinating aviation collections including a 1940s Spitfire, Scotland’s Concorde and the National Museum of Flight’s recently-acquired Red Arrows Hawk T1A. The fascinating story of East Fortune’s history as a wartime airfield is showcased in the Museum’s permanent Fortunes of War exhibition and families can learn more about flight and piloting skills through the Fantastic Flight gallery’s interactive exhibits.
