A small hotel lying just opposite the former Donaldson’s School has won a 5-star Quality Assurance Award from VisitScotland.

Dunstane House is a newly refurbished hotel with uniquely styled rooms which recognise the owner’s roots in Orkney and the building’s Victorian history.

Interior designer Hannah Lohan was commissioned to do the work and she has created aa contemporary urban sanctuary with an ‘authentic Scottish soul’.

There are artworks throughout the hotel curated by Nicky Brooks of Red Door Gallery and food is on offer all day with signature dishes of Cullen Skink and Tender Seared Orkney Scallops on the menu.

VisitScotland Industry Relationship Manager, Alasdair Maclauchlan said: “Dunstane House is a fantastic example of the quality experience on offer to people staying in Edinburgh. I would like to extend my congratulations to the team on this achievement.
“Our Quality Assurance scheme helps businesses to reach their full potential and truly shine. The scheme is about more than just the ‘stars’ on the door – it’s about the entire visitor experience, about investing in your business, driving-up quality and creating jobs.

“Delivering a quality experience that meets, and exceeds, visitor expectations is crucial in making Scotland a must-visit, must-return destination.”

Shirley Mowat from Dunstane House said: “Everyone at Dunstane House is over the moon to receive a 5-star grading from Visit Scotland. We are all incredibly proud of our relaunch, bringing the house back to a neo-classical style by using the warm natural colours of Orkney, my homeland, to create a home away-from-home. We strive to give our guests the best possible experience so it’s wonderful to receive this recognition.”
