The Christian Aid Week Book Sale on George Street has a new patron in Edinburgh resident and artist John Byrne.

John Byrne, this year’s patron of the George Street Christian Aid Week Book Sale with the painting ‘Self portrait with a small bird’ which he has donated to the sale.

John has donated a self-portrait to the sale entitled ‘Self-portrait with a small bird’.

James Holloway, former Director of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and convener of the sale of pictures said: “We are delighted that the Christian Aid sale has been given a self-portrait of this year’s patron, John Byrne.  Not only is he one of Scotland favourite painters but his work for the theatre and television is legendary. Proceeds from the sale will support Christian Aid’s work in tackling the root causes of poverty as well as its effects.”
